A new bar, cafe and restaurant is set to open in the city centre themed around horror and fantasy. Merlin’s will be serving up spooky cocktails, food from ‘hell’s kitchen’ and a ‘spine-tingling experience’ to visitors and bosses say it’ll be like ‘Wednesday Addams meets Stranger Things meets Beetlejuice’.

The new venue will be in Martineau Place on Corporation Street and will be family friendly by day, while by night will feature music and live acts until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays in a ‘bewitching fog-filled atmosphere’ and a ‘devilish dash of theatre’. It’s set to open on August 3, 2024.

The bar has been created by horror-loving couple Martin Fox and Ella Tuta and they say that the spot is ‘not your typical cafe’, inspired by horror films and characters.

Martin said: “Merlin’s is more than just a place to eat and drink; it’s a spine-tingling experience that will leave you wanting more. We wanted to create a venue that transports our guests into a world of fantasy and horror, where every visit is filled with excitement and intrigue.

“From our unique themed menu offerings to our creatively chilling themed décor, every detail at Merlin’s has been carefully crafted to provide a positively horrifying experience.”

Guests can expect themed decorations, animatronics and ambient lighting as well as interactive elements that ‘bring the experience to life’. There will also be special events such as themed nights, live DJs and bands. They promise ‘every day is halloween at Merlin’s’.
